Alongside out topic of traditional tales, we are also running a sub topic of minibeasts.

Last week we went into the garden and collected snails to observe.  By placing them both in a tank and on a sheet of clear plastic, we were able to get really up close from both above and below. The children were totally engrossed watching them.  We discovered that snails have a foot and teeth.  We even saw the teeth when they ate the lettuce soup we made especially for them.

Our snails were fabulous artists too. By dipping them in a little food colouring and water (totally harmless for the snail) and then placing them on paper, we could observe the colourful triails they made. Fascinating!
