Music

At Kew Woods Primary School we are musicians, we understand that music can help to develop the skills, attitudes and attributes that can support learning in other national curriculum subjects. This includes listening skills, the ability to concentrate, creativity, intuitions, aesthetic sensitivity, perseverance, the ability to work in a group, self confidence and sensitivity towards others.

From reception through to year 6 we learn to create and explore, sing and perform and listen and appraise through immersive musical activities. In music lessons the children will be exposed to different types of music from around the world  such as Jazz, Hip hop, R’n’B and classic rock.

In year 5 the children partake in the Meols Cop dance festival. Over a course of time the children are taught a dance by students from Meols Cop that they will then perform on stage and compete with other primary schools.

In spring KS2 children will be given the chance to dance at the Wally Cain festival. Selected children will learn a dance and perform against other schools in the area at the local theatre.

At Kew Woods we use a scheme of work called Charanga to accompany our teaching of music. Charanga is the resource that equips our pupils with modern, relevant music skills and a deep understanding of the principles of music. We feel this is a vibrant, modern, online platform to enrich music teaching and learning in our school.
