PSHE
At Kew Woods Primary School, our Code of Conduct encourages all children to do their best, show kindness and respect towards others, and work and learn together positively. Our PSHE curriculum reinforces these expectations and is carefully designed to promote our school values of Connect, Kindness and Believe. We aim to provide every child with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to thrive both now and in the future.
Our curriculum is relevant to children’s lives and reflects both the needs of our local community and the experiences of our pupils. We want every child to feel safe, valued and confident to embrace new challenges, recognising that mistakes are a natural and important part of learning. Through our PSHE provision, we strive to develop resilient, empathetic and responsible individuals who can keep themselves safe, make informed decisions and contribute positively to society.
We aim to inspire every child to believe in themselves and understand that their aspirations can be achieved through learning, imagination and effort. Children develop the knowledge, skills and attributes needed to manage relationships, physical and mental wellbeing, and their responsibilities as members of their communities. We want our pupils to leave Kew Woods with ambitious goals for their futures, fully prepared for the next stage of their education and equipped to pursue a wide range of opportunities and careers.
Our PSHE curriculum includes learning about relationships, health, wellbeing and personal safety, with carefully planned progression in skills, vocabulary, understanding and knowledge across all year groups. A range of enrichment opportunities further support this learning, including workshops, visitors and community projects that help children explore important themes such as healthy relationships, diversity, inclusion, citizenship, personal responsibility and keeping safe.
Pupil wellbeing is a priority throughout the school. Children are encouraged to share worries or concerns through a range of supportive systems and trusted adults. Our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors help promote kindness, awareness and inclusion, ensuring pupils know where to find support when needed.
Assemblies reinforce our school values, celebrate personal growth and encourage a positive mindset. Opportunities such as School Council elections, leadership roles and pupil voice groups help children develop an understanding of democracy, responsibility and active citizenship. Through fundraising initiatives, community partnerships, environmental projects and charitable work, pupils are encouraged to think beyond themselves, show compassion for others and make a positive difference to the world around them.
