Physical Education

The high quality Physical Education (PE) at our school strives to develop practical skills in order to participate, compete and lead a healthy lifestyle. These are our key concepts. We also want to engage and inspire the pupils to develop personal skills and talents, a lifelong love for activity, leading to a healthy lifestyle and an increase in self – confidence.

Our PE curriculum follows the Get Set 4 PE scheme and incorporates nine areas of PE to ensure comprehensive coverage. Dance, Gymnastics, Athletics, OAA, fundamental games (KS1 only), invasion games, net-court games, striking and fielding games and swimming.

Children access 2 hours of PE weekly (Reception 1 hour plus time in provision) and are taught indoors in our hall space and outdoors on our playground / field spaces.

Our PE is a skills-based curriculum. The sports we choose to teach are the vehicles through which we learn the skills. With this in mind, core skills for each area are arranged into units and carefully sequenced within a planned programme.

As an active participant in our school games area, we take part in a wide range of competitions and events which are inclusive and allow a large number of children to represent school across their time at Kew Woods.

We also encourage a wide range of additional physical activity during the school day and at break times, where our play leaders work to keep everyone active, reinforcing our key concept of developing practical skills to lead a healthy lifestyle.
