At Kew Woods Primary School, we are committed to supporting every child to become a confident, respectful and responsible member of society. Through our PSHE and RSHE curriculum, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to stay safe, healthy and happy, both now and in the future.

Our curriculum helps children to understand themselves and their place in the world. Pupils learn about positive relationships, friendships, family life, physical and mental wellbeing, online safety, diversity, inclusion and the importance of respecting themselves and others. As children progress through school, they also learn about growing up, puberty and human reproduction in an age-appropriate and sensitive way.

We promote open discussion, critical thinking and mutual respect, ensuring that all children feel valued and supported. Our teaching reflects our school values of Connect, Kindness and Believe, helping pupils to develop empathy, resilience and the confidence to make informed decisions.

We recognise the important role parents and carers play in their children’s development and work closely with families to ensure our curriculum meets the needs of our pupils and community. Prior to teaching sex education, parents are invited to view the resources used and discuss any questions with school staff. Parents have the right to request withdrawal from the non-statutory elements of sex education, following discussion with the Headteacher. There is no right to withdraw from statutory Relationships Education or Health Education.

Through high-quality PSHE and RSHE education, we aim to equip our pupils with the skills, knowledge and values they need to thrive in school, contribute positively to society and successfully navigate the opportunities and challenges of modern life.
