EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY

At Kew Woods Primary School we take every possible opportunity to celebrate and promote equality and diversity in our ever-changing world. We firmly believe that for children to grow up and be respectful towards each person they meet in life, this must be taught in school and be promoted amongst the wider community. Everyone who comes into contact with our school has the right to do so, feeling that they are a welcome addition to our family and that they will receive the respect that they deserve. Everyone who comes into our school talks about its special ‘feel’ – this is as a result of the strong ethos that all stakeholders share and believe in. At Kew Woods Primary School – everyone is welcome.

Where We Teach The Protected Characteristics

We are taught the protected characteristics in our whole school assemblies. We read literature which helps us to celebrate how we are all unique and we should respect everyone in our community. We can re-read the books in our own time as they are displayed in our classroom library, indoor school library and outside library at break times.

Our class teachers also choose books to read to us which help us understand the protected characteristics and our curriculum also incorporates the teaching of protected characteristics not just through weekly Life Learning lessons but also via different subject areas.

Some of our favourite books are listed below:
