“You have embedded a culture across the school which promotes pupils’ academic aspirations alongside the physical and mental well-being of pupils and staff alike.” Ofsted report 2017
We have developed a curriculum that we believe will give the children the skills to be confident, well rounded individuals. Character education, which is weaved through all aspects of school life, also supports our children’s mental health and wellbeing.
We have achieved the Well being for School Award from Optimus Education / National Children’s Bureau. In addition, we accessed the Anti-Bullying Alliance All Together programme where we were awarded the highest standard and are a gold school. We have invested in our staff continuous professional development to ensure we have a skilled staff when supporting our pupils’ and each other’s wellbeing. We have a senior leader trained in Mental Health. Staff are trained in mindfulness and growth mindset. Year 4-6 staff trained in Girls on Board programme. Several staff have completed anxiety training and training on developing mental resilience for upper key stage 2 pupils. We have a school therapist on site for two days a week to support pupils with emotional needs.
Our pupil Well Being Ambassadors work in collaboration with the Anti-bullying Ambassadors and School Councillors to ensure we are actively promoting positive relationships and ways to look support our mental health.
As Leaders we also care about the mental health and wellbeing of all of our staff, regardless of their role in school. We are conscious of workload and are constantly trying to find ways to support staff and make sure they feel valued. We encourage staff to share their challenges so that we can help and support them. The support system is strong from the Headteacher to leadership and management to the inclusion support staff – we encourage staff to talk and share so that we can put the right support mechanisms in place. We are extremely supportive of our staff when they are experiencing difficulties in their personal lives and we do everything we can to ease the stress and strain during these times.
We aim to ensure that you can ‘feel’ the caring and nurturing ethos of our school the minute you come on site.
